If you need to remove the sub-base, can the contractor get additional payment?

In a case that sub-base for example needs to be removed after having been installed, additional costs may incur to the client. However, before these costs are applied, the reason for removal should be investigated by the Contract Administrator or the Clerk of Works.

If the contractor had been following the designer’s drawings and specification and correctly installed the right type and depth of sub-base, then he is entitled for additional payment to remove it. If he installed the wrong type or depth due to his own error in interpreting the contract drawings, then he would not be entitled to additional fees and should rectify/remove it on his own expense.
