Product information is the specific information provided from the supplier(s) with regards to the products that have been selected to be used in a project.

Such information would be included in the specification to make product sourcing as accurate as possible, without leaving to the contractor too much room for cost-cutting alternatives.

Sometimes it is essential that alternatives are allowed in the specification (which is normally phrased as ‘…or similar approved…’) which can give the Contractor the flexibility to suggest a product with nearly the same properties. This however needs to be approved by the consultant who has issued that particular specification before the Contractor can use it on site.
