What are Simplified Planning Zones?

The Town And Country Planning Act (1990) describes Simplified Planning Zones (SPZs) as:

‘A simplified planning zone is an area in respect of which a simplified planning zone scheme is in force’.

Simplified Planning Zones (SPZs) are areas in which there is no need for planning permission or the payment of planning fees to the Local Planning Authority in order for it to grant approval for specified planning permissions for a proposed development.

Even though the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) does not specifically mention Simplified Planning Zones, it suggests that simplified planning can be applied in particular areas.
