What are the risks of only having a few major clients that provide repeated work?

It makes sense to use the expression ‘don’t put all eggs in one basket’ to get an idea of the risks involved in having repeated work from existing clients as your one and only income channel.

It is very important to maintain excellent professional relationships with your existing clients and always keep them happy, by providing them with the highest level of your services. However you should always have alternative streams of income.

Repeated work from satisfied clients has proven to be the most cost effective way of acquiring work, but it also has it’s down side with high risks of the dependancy introduced which in most cases works only one-way and is quite fragile.
