How long does consent for works on TPO trees lasts for?

By default, consent for works on trees under a Tree Preservation Order is valid for two years beginning with the date of its grant. However, the Local Planning Authority may decide to set a different time limit with a condition in the consent.

A tree owner may use an unused and unexpired consent obtained by a former owner. If any specified time limit expires, and the tree owner wishes to carry out a prohibited activity in respect of a protected tree, a further application for consent has to be made.
