When will you appoint a Quantity Surveyor?

Not all construction projects require the services of a Quantity Surveyor (QS). However, if the Client is worried about keeping a project on budget, a Quantity Surveyor must be appointed.

He can be appointed at the start of the project to come up with, at the simplest level, a ‘take-off’ of quantities and costs based on the building drawings. However, some self-builders employ a QS during the project to ensure that costs do not spiral out of control.

Quantity Surveyors typically provide a valuable input in larger projects and the potential savings on the overall project cost mitigate their appointment fees.
